Carmelo Midili is an artist who eight years ago started collecting paintings from art school trash bins in New York City. Ever since then, he has been using abandoned paintings on canvas to create sculptures.
Until recently, Carmelo would cut and reshape the paintings that he found and would glue them together in his works to create collage sculptures. However, through exploring the theme of failure, Carmelo came to understand that if he transformed the original works then he would no longer be honoring the true integrity of the painting. For this reason he decided to keep the paintings intact and in their complete, original form in which he found them.
